About our Congregation and Beliefs
Hollister United Methodist Church is a community of faith striving to live by the motto – “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.” We welcome and are inclusive of all people from all walks of life, including the LGBTQ community.
Our Core Values are:
Acceptance
Compassion
Faith
Unity
Love
Love God and Love Neighbor
We firmly believe in following what Jesus said is the greatest commandment:“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Matthew 22:36-40 NRSV)
As followers of the teachings of Jesus,
We take the Bible as our primary source but believe that the best scholarship should be used in understanding. Simply put, we take the Bible seriously, not necessarily literally.
We aim to follow the Three Simple Rules of Methodist founder John Wesley:
Do No Harm, Do Good, Stay in Love with God.
Wesley also said,
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
This is the manner in which we aspire to operate in our community and our world.
Founded in 1869,
Hollister United Methodist Church celebrated 150 years in the community in January 2019. Our historic building in downtown Hollister CA contains the only pipe organ in San Benito County.
